Badiola is our winery in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. Founded in 2018 by acquiring an existing winery, Badiola offers village and single vineyard wines that display the freshness, elegance and depth of flavours which we believe distinguish the great wines from Rioja Alavesa. We cultivate over 300 parcels of extraordinary vineyards on the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria, mainly in the villages of Villabuena de Alava, Leza, Samaniego, Laguardia, Navaridas and Baños del Ebro. The average age of the vineyards is around 50 years and many were planted in the 1920s, 30s and 40s.
Made from highest quality, selected Viura grapes from small, old, hilltop vineyard parcels (“parcelas”) on limestone soils. About a third of the wine is fermented in semi-new oak barrels of top quality French oak, for added texture and complexity, but without overt oak character.
Subtle but intriguing nose that opens up in the glass, stone fruit, herbal and white flowers. Juicy and refreshing on the palate, with real poise and length, showing a chalky, mineral finish. The quality of the fruit shines, showing how interesting old vine Viura can be, without needing any oak ageing.
A serious, delightfully delicate, dry white wine that is ready to drink, but will keep for another three or four years. A good match for fish and shellfish, white meats, mild cheeses and rice dishes.
